Hello and Happy New Year!
Holy cow, 2017 is the 30th Anniversary of In My Tribe! In celebration of that milestone, we will feature many of those songs at our shows this year. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked In My Tribe (Elektra) #65 on their 100 Best Of the Eighties list. “The album gave us a great chance to really coalesce as a band,” said keyboardist Dennis Drew. “At that point we had to save our career and make a good record. We fucking buckled up, tightened our belt and did it.”
We couldn’t do it without you. See you soon!
10,000 Thanks! Mary, Steven, Dennis, Jerome, John, and Jeff.
WOW! 30 yrs. IMT one of my favorites of all time. congrats! hope to see you live in 2017. keep playing the favorites! – jeff
We will be playing all those songs this year at shows.
I love you all and I cannot wait for you to bring great joy into my life for an evening. See you in Virginia!
None of it would happen with out you, Jennifer. Thanks for the support. See you at the Birchmere May 4th. We’ll be playing many of the songs from In My Tribe in celebration of the records 30th Anniversary. Get your tickets early!
10,00 Maniacs.
See you there. Bring your dancing shoes!
We are happy to bring the joy. We added a Birchmere show in October and we’ve been offered a New Years Eve show in Virginia Beach. It’s not confirmed yet. Thanks for the support.
I saw you perform in 1987 in Columbus, Ohio, when I was 18 … and now I get to take my 19-year-old daughter to see you perform in Austin, Texas! I (we!) have loved you all these years! xo
Saw you guys for the first time in ’87 in Syracuse, and then many many times since, in venues large and small, for over 25 years. The show where you opened for the Grateful Dead at Rich Stadium on July 4th (1989?) is probably my favorite for many reasons, but those early appearances with Mary, including the Grassroots Festival In Trumansburg, are right up there. Love you, hope to see you this summer, and thanks for everything.
and small? It’s been a fun ride. Thanks for the support!
Played this all the time with my pals in Sunderland uk whilst at college 1987-90. Sound track to halcyon days.Still love it today. When are you coming to England?
We hope soon. It’s been too long.
Saw you guys with REM in Charleston W.V. What a show. Got tix to Birchmere show…can’t wait!
I have tix for your 8/1 show in Sacramento. I love hearing you play in Northern Calif. The band always puts on a fun show. Sorry “about the weather”, probably gonna be hot!!!
Yay! We enjoy playing in NoCa!
And on fire. Wow!! Stay safe.
I heard you were coming to north-central college in Naperville Illinois is Natalie merchant singing with you guys ?
She is not. Mary Ramsey has been our singer since 1994.
Just saw you guys in Grants Pass on Sunday, July 30th and it was awesome! All of you killed it and I have to say that Mary Ramsey was an incredible surprise for me. That girl can belt it out and plays that viola like it was formed in her hands at birth! I’ve always been a great fan of Natalie Merchant but they both give me goose bumps watching them do their thing and will catch you all next time you’re in Oregon or Northern California. Thank you for all of the great music through the years and the passion you still bring! ~ All my best and God Bless, Jeff Linden (Grants Pass, Oregon)
Thanks, Jeff. We had a great time in Grants Pass.
How NPR would not include this album in their recent list of 150 albums by females, 1964-2017? It’s beyond me. They didn’t include any Natalie either. Furious! I saw you guys in San Diego in 1988, 1989, 1993 and at Pride Palm Springs in 2015.
We were surprised Ms. Merchant didn’t make the list.
I’m just rediscovering 10,000 Maniacs after a few years “astray.” And on your Tour page here, I’m seeing all kinds of Northeast dates from 2015 through 2017 that I missed out on. Damn. I was a music magazine editor for a long time in the 1980s and ’90s, and I remember I wrote a feature on the In My Tribe-era group after interviewing Natalie. At the time, I also got turned on to the John & Mary CD on Ryko. And then… I fell in love with the Love Among the Ruins CD — Mary’s voice was the most hypnotic, stunning sound in music, I thought. And then… kids and career cropped up. And today, I heard “More Than This” on the radio, and it was like hearing an old friend…. One of the great songs and performances ever. It’s kind of cool to check back in and hear Mary sounding more hypnotic than ever, and the band sounding so tight. I hope to see you coming to the Northeast again. Soon!
Hi Larry. Thanks for the kind words. We kind of lost our way for a few years when Rob died in 2000. We took our time returning to performing. When 2017 ends we will have played 55 shows this year. That’s the most for us since 1997. Our agent is booking 2018 and we’ll have plenty of Northeast shows throughout the year. Where do you live? ~ Steven
Saw you guys back in day in Kansas city and would love for you to come back.
We played at Knuckleheads this summer and had a great time. We hope to be back.
